Updated: 2019-10-14

A series projects for the power battery industry and the intelligent transportation manufacturing sector for the Guiyang branch of BYD Company Limited recently passed key environmental impact assessments, company officials said.

The projects will settle in Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone (Guiyang HIDZ) in the capital city of southwestern Guizhou province, according to local media reports published on Oct 12.

The new plant will cover over 450,000 square meters, with a total investment of 5,022.07 million yuan ($710.4 million), zone officials said.

The planned date for the commissioning is July 2021.

The main plant area will mainly be divided into production areas and office and living areas.

The construction includes production lines for lithium-ion power batteries and battery support materials, assembly lines and production lines for rubber-wheeled urban trams and support public transport facilities.

Company officials said that after the plant is completed, it will produce 10 gigawatt-hour of power battery cells annually.

While meeting the needs of existing BYD new energy vehicle production, it will also supply batteries on demand to other new energy vehicle production companies, both domestically and internationally.

At the same time, it will also have the ability to produce and assemble 120 urban tramcars to facilitate the upgrade of region's urban transport network.

In January this year, the Guiyang municipal government signed an agreement with BYD. Under its terms, in addition to establishing a plant for the new energy and rail transit industry, BYD will invest in building an intelligent manufacturing industrial park in Guiyang.
