The revenue of the software and information technology service industry in Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province reached 2.03 billion yuan ($285 million) from January to May this year, up 31.65 percent year-on-year. According to officials from the area's big data office, the revenue is expected to reach 2.5 billion yuan in the first half of 2020, with a year-on-year increase of 35.8 percent.

Guian has always cultivated the big data industry as a leading industry and a source of core competitiveness. It has attracted China's major mobile telecommunications operators – China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom – and the world's leading high-tech companies – Huawei, Tencent and Apple – to build data centers in the area.

To date, the data centers of the three mobile telecommunication operators are able to accommodate 260,000 servers, with 100,000 servers already in operation. It is estimated that the number of servers will exceed 380,000 in the next three years. By the end of this year, the data centers of Huawei, Tencent and Apple will be put into operation.

Guian has promoted new infrastructure, represented by 5G, this year and achieved remarkable achievements in developing a digital economy. Construction of China Telecom's cloud computing information park started on May 22. The park will provide 5,000 racks and accommodate 50,000 servers when completed.

Officials said that Guian is relying on the advantages of data center agglomeration to extend its industrial chain. It will accelerate the construction of an intelligent terminal industrial cluster led by mobile phones with annual turnover of more than 100 billion yuan and five industrial clusters led by data centers with annual turnover of more than 10 billion yuan.
