Since the start of this year, Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province has accelerated the construction of new infrastructure – including 5G, data centers, industrial internet and artificial intelligence – to promote the digital economy's development.

The area has established a leading group with the province's capital city, Guiyang, to promote network construction, industrial cultivation, integrative application and investment promotion of the 5G industry.

According to reports, the area plans to build 10,000 5G base stations in five years to optimize information infrastructure construction, helping upgrade the digital industry and consumption.

In recent years, Guian has devoted itself to constructing South China's data center demonstration base and has built 14 data centers.

The investment in data centers in Guian is expected to exceed 100 billion yuan ($15.11 billion) by 2025, according to officials at a press conference held on Oct 28.

It is estimated that with the completion of these data centers, at least 1 million servers will be put into use per year. The output value of Guiyang and Guian's electronic manufacturing industry is expected to exceed 100 billion yuan by 2025.
