The National E-commerce Work Conference was held on Nov 26 in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, to review efforts made during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) period and set tasks for 2021.

Ren Hongbin, assistant minister of the Ministry of Commerce, indicated that the country had achieved remarkable results in the development of e-commerce in the past five years.

He said that e-commerce had become an essential channel for household consumption, an innovative form of foreign trade development, and a key driving force for economic growth.

Conference attendees stressed that e-commerce policies should be implemented to promote a new development pattern during the upcoming 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).

Relevant departments should take advantage of e-commerce to promote poverty alleviation and rural revitalization. Cross-border e-commerce needs to be emphasized to encourage the development of foreign trade.

E-commerce demonstration enterprises and bases should be set up to help drive innovative and coordinated development. Relevant departments should also focus on the risk assessment and security guarantee of the e-commerce system in terms of data sharing and industrial development.

At the conference, officials announced the list of the second batch of e-commerce enterprises.
