The Guiyang bureau of big data development and management - located in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province - recently released a work report which highlighted progress made last year in the city's governance and administration and outlined plans for future improvements.
The report said that Guiyang will make the best of its management systems in big data applications, special funds for big data development and its expert database for further development.
The bureau has used big data to access 1,542 municipal government affairs that are available online. The e-government service covers all government departments at the the municipal and district levels, while covering 95 percent of communities, towns and villages last year.
Big data is also playing a role in monitoring social projects: a total of 36 government departments have basically completed application of big data, with the completion rate hitting 88 percent last year.
The Digital Guiyang project reportedly operated smoothly in monitoring markets, cultural tourism and urban management. A series of eight projects on the urban integrated service platform passed their technical reviews and had their budgets approved.
Among other things, Guiyang has recently added 90 data interfaces to its municipal government data sharing platform - covering government affairs, people's livelihoods, medical services and poverty alleviation.
In terms of information sharing, the Guiyang government has been ranked first in the country for four consecutive years now, while being ranked 6th in a survey of the world's 30 major cities.
Guiyang also has launched legislation and applications work covering big data. Based on its particular problems and needs, the city is reportedly pushing for further improvements to its legal-regulations ecosystem.
In terms of implementing relevant laws, Guiyang has improved its drafting and issuance of policies, its legal advisory system, as well as its review system for fair competition.
A raft of measures have been issued to enhance local legal education, so that the public can expand its legal awareness and help support the introduction of big data.
Moving forwards, in the current year Guiyang plans to continue improving local laws in relation to big data, further improve administrative decisions and publicize its legal achievements.
