Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – has reportedly been successfully facing up to the problem of a dearth of parking spaces in the city, in the face of increasing numbers of vehicles, by going high-tech.

To solve the pressing challenge, State-owned company Guiyang Intelligent Parking Industry Investment and Development Co was established in 2019.

With advanced parking service and management platforms, the company is said to have provided convenient and intelligent services for residents.

To date, the company has established 10 intelligent parking lots in the districts of Yunyan, Nanming, Guanshanhu and Huaxi, as well as in Xifeng county. Compared with traditional parking lots, the intelligent generation uses big data technology, making them much more efficient and maximizing spaces.

One of the parking lots near Huaguoyuan Overpass covers an area of more than 8,000 square meters, providing 336 individual parking slots and 20 charging piles. In addition, it even has a 6,000 sq m leisure square on the top floor for locals to chill out and have a rest.

Drivers can use an intelligent parking app on their phones to navigate to the intelligent parking lots and check for available parking spaces. The app can also help drivers track the location of their cars and pay for parking fees when leaving.

In 2021, the company opened three intelligent parking buildings and one unattended parking lot started operating – providing about 2,000 parking spaces.

Plans are for the company to construct six more intelligent parking lots in 2022 to cover more hospitals, schools, established residential communities and farmers markets.
