Digital economy boosts development of Guiyang, Guian

The city of Guiyang and the nearby Guian New Area – both located in Southwest China's Guizhou province – have been promoting the digital industrialization and industrial digitalization, and are understood to have achieved rapid development in the big data sector.

The added value of the digital economy accounted for more than 40 percent of their combined GDP last year, and the average growth rate for their software and information technology services was 38.7 percent.

What's more, relying on their abundant data resources, Guiyang and Guian are said to have enriched their data products and applications, to make data more available and usable.

Guiyang Big Data Sci-tech Innovation City is a big data cluster in Guian, with a total planned area of 54 square kilometers. In the first quarter of 2022, more than 80 companies registered in the city, and more than 10 established offices.

Under current plans, the area will construct 1.2 million square meters of industrial and residential buildings, attract 400 big data companies and achieve 3 billion yuan ($447.37 million) in operating income in 2022.

In the first quarter, the estimated total scale of the information technology service industrial cluster in Guiyang and Guian was 24.45 billion yuan. It currently has 30 major projects and has 10.19 billion yuan of paid-up investment.

With the integrated development of Guiyang and Guian, the software business revenue in the areas was 14.08 billion yuan in Q1, a surge of 102.7 percent, that was 6.1 percentage points higher than the provincial average.
