In two months, it will be picking season for kiwi fruits in Xiuwen county, located in Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou province in Southwest China. The Xiuwen Tianzhu Zhongyang Farmers' Cooperative has recently conducted inspections of the cold storage preparation and prepared platforms and shelves.

Seizing the opportunity of government promotion for cold storage construction, the cooperative applied for the construction of cold storage facilities for agricultural products in the county.

It established a cold storage base in Chaoyang village capable of storing more than 1.5 million kilograms of goods.

In the picking season, the cooperative gathers kiwi fruits from its own plantation and buys them from other farmers. These fruits are then stored in cold storage and sold in batches at various times.

In the past, kiwi fruits could only be picked and sold during the season around October. It is now possible to extend the sales period up to the Chinese New Year, which is expected to reduce sales pressure and bring stability to market prices.

Currently, Xiuwen has built over 400 storage facilities with a capacity of 28,000 metric tons.

This year, Xiuwen is expected to produce more than 70,000 tons of fresh kiwi fruit, with the brand value of "Xiuwen Kiwi Fruit" expected to exceed 3 billion yuan ($416.37 million).
