The 2024 China International Big Data Industry Expo, held in Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – concluded in style on Aug 30, marking the 10th edition of the significant event.

Over the past decade, Guiyang and the nearby Gui'an New Area have emerged as pioneers in the big data industry, with the expo playing a central role in their development.

The journey began in 2013 when major telecoms operators established data centers in the Gui'an New Area, positioning Guiyang and Gui'an at the forefront of big data innovation.

In 2015, the first Big Data Expo was held in Guiyang, setting a precedent for global discussions on the field of endeavor.

The expo's stature is widely said to have grown significantly over the ensuing years, evolving into the national-level event it now is in 2016 and earning accolades from top officials in 2018 and 2019.

This year the expo was hosted by the National Data Administration for the first time, with the Guizhou provincial government as the organizer.

The event featured slick and stylish exhibitions, achievement releases, industry exchanges and special activities.

As the world's first of its kind, the Big Data Expo has been held annually since 2015. Its organizers say it has consistently embraced a "global vision, national level, industry perspectives and corporate standpoints" approach – adhering to the philosophy that "data creates more value and innovation paves a better future."

This year's event showcased the expanding role of big data in sectors such as transportation, healthcare and tourism – positioning Guiyang and Gui'an as prominent players in the digital economy.

With over 3,000 participating companies and numerous high-profile events, the expo highlighted Guiyang and Gui'an's substantial progress and global influence in the big data field.
