From traditional manufacturing to smart factories, Guizhou province in Southwest China is changing perceptions of its industrial capacity with impressive "smart manufacturing speed".
What can be accomplished in just one minute? At Geely's engine factory in Guizhou, one car engine is assembled in just 42 seconds. At China Aviation Guizhou Elevator Co, the entire production process of an elevator, including all its components, is completed within a minute. At Guizhou Guicai Innovation Technology Co, 300 meters of aluminum profiles are produced the same amount of time.
These achievements are the result of Guizhou's strategic use of big data to foster technological and industrial innovation, driving the province's real economy toward more intelligent and efficient growth.
At Guizhou Tyre Co, a tire is manufactured every 25 seconds. "The process involves multiple steps, such as rubber treatment, half-component extrusion, embryo molding, vulcanization, and inspection – all of which are now automated," said Peng Bolang, a staff member at the company.
The fully automated integrated molding system for tire rings has reduced labor needs by 50 percent, decreased transfer times by 90 percent, increased production efficiency by 60 percent, and boosted first-pass product quality by 15 percent.
"The core objective of digitalization is to enhance the competitiveness of businesses across the entire supply chain, from R&D and production to sales and services," said Han Hongchuan, head of Guizhou Tyre Co's IT Department.
The company has become Guizhou's first 5G-connected factory and has been recognized as a global "Lighthouse Factory", marking a significant breakthrough for China's tire industry in smart manufacturing.
